LONGVIEW, Texas - A Longview woman who was shot delivering newspapers in Marshall was released from the hospital Wednesday morning and has had time to reflect on the incident.
âPeople are going to do things we question daily. Right after I got shot, I was in my hospital bed watching as people were shot and killed in Boulder at a grocery store,â Valarie Grubb said from her home Wednesday night. âIt can happen anywhere, anytime. People have to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings. I got shot in the back because I was delivering papers every day. These people got shot because they went shopping somewhere they go all the time.â
WASHINGTON- A man has pleaded guilty to defrauding Tyson Foods Inc. and another unnamed company of more that $244 million, charging them for costs of purchasing and feeding hundreds of thousands of cattle. The problem is, the ghost cattle did not exist.Â
Court documents show that 49-year-old Cody Allen Easterday of Mesa used his company, Easterday Ranches Inc., to enter into a series of agreements with Tyson and the unnamed company to purchase and feed cattle on their behalf.Â
As part of these agreements, Tyson and the unnamed company would pay Easterday Ranches to purchase and feed the cattle, and then once the cattle were slaughtered and sold at market price, Easterday Ranches would pay them back (with interest and other costs) and keep any profits.Â

EBAday 2021: Will the European Council’s latest endorsement boost corporate instant payments? 2 hours ago
1 The European Council recently backed the creation of an integrated and instant system for retail payments, interoperable across all EU member states.
While this update gives the Commission strong political mandate for pushing forward initiatives across these fields, the industry is yet to see supervisory attention given to the corporate sector with the same fervour.
Adopting conclusions that respond to the Retail Payments Strategy presented by the European Commission in September 2020, the Council is pushing to ensure that market conditions for the development of EU-wide payment solutions are created to decrease the EU’s dependency on major global players
Elk feeding ends early
The National Elk Refugeâs big rigs spewed out alfalfa pellets for the last time in 2021 on Monday, marking the end of a feeding season that has been abridged by about two weeks to meet management goals.
Using snow depth as the benchmark, refuge staff in an ordinary year would have fed the 8,500 or so elk on the property through about April 12. But because of an elk feeding âstep-downâ plan that is taking effect, the end date this year was March 29.
âWeâre on our way to fully implementing the step-down plan,â refuge biologist Eric Cole said. âThis is consistent with whatâs in the plan.â
After years of controversy over the truck arrestor on Teton Pass, the Wyoming Department of Transportation has decided to go a different route.
Instead of repairing the arrestor yet again, the department is installing a giant ball pit in the structure, hoping the toys will act as thousands of plastic pillows for out-of-control semis.
âIf they catch kids who climb up the nets and jump in during birthday parties, they should work for trucks,â lead engineer Chuck E. Cheese said.
Cheese said the department was tired of repairing the cable nets after they stopped trucks that smashed into them, calling it âa lot to expect from a few pieces of metal.â WYDOT has purchased the plastic spheres by the millions, buying the surplus from the plethora of failed indoor play places that once filled the centers of commerce called malls.
